North Rhine-Westphalia Logistics Market 2022

In 2022, the industrial and logistics real estate market in North Rhine-Westphalia achieved a take-up of 1.55m sq m. Take-up was thus 15% down on the previous year's result. At 181,000 sq m, the final quarter was particularly low. 

The shortage of space is becoming increasingly apparent on the industrial and logistics real estate market. We also saw a more subdued consumer environment in the final quarter. Consumer restraint was reflected in particular in the decline in take-up by retailers, which play a key role in the logistics market in Germany's most populous state. Compared with 2021, take-up by retail companies fell by 36% to 510,000 sq m. Nevertheless, the retail sector was the strongest user group, accounting for 28% of total take-up (2021: 35%). The share of logistics companies also declined by a third to 430,000 sq m. Only production companies were able to increase their take-up by 37% to 325,000 sq m.
